About some of my adventures I created short videos. Check them out below. Of course, you can also access my YouTube-Channel directly. Subscribe there if you are interested in updates.
Autumn in Lapland – From Nikkaluokta to Abisko on Twisted Paths
This film is about a solo hike in Swedish and Norwegian Lapland in September. I did not follow the “standard” itinerary which is the famous King’s trail (Kungsleden) but rather a zig-zag route through the mountains preferring less frequented areas.
The weather was very changeable (sun, rain, some snow) and oftentimes there was a strong wind. It was a memorable adventure in a beautiful landscape.
Rogen Nature Reserve — by Water and by Land
This short film is about a trip in the Rogen Nature Reserve in Sweden. Using a packraft and our feet we explored a small part of this area. Unfortunately, due to unfavorable weather conditions we had to cut our trip short. But nonetheless it was a great experience.
Arjeplogsfjäll und Sulitjelma Circuit
Two videos about a late summer/early autumn backpacking trip in northern Sweden and Norway. The whole hike was roughly 20 days.
For the first time I’m bringing a small packraft as an experiment. Crossing Mávasjávrre wouldn’t have been possible without it as there was no boat service this year.
Part 1: Jäkkvik – Tjállas – Guijaure – Lomtjärnen – Silvervägen – Ikkesjávrre – Mavas
Part 2: Mavas – Pieskehaure – Ny Sulitjelma – Sorjushytta – Stáddájåhkå – Pieskehaure – Vaimok – Tarradalen – Kvikkjokk
Winter in Sarek — A Winter Adventure in Lapland
This short film is about a multi-day ski trip in and around Sarek national park in Swedish Lapland. While there were also some days with less than perfect conditions we were mostly lucky with the weather and had time to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Many thanks to Udo Kellner who joined me on this adventure! Udo also has a Youtube channel and created a video about our trip. Udo provided additional footage for this film – in particular all the drone sequences.
South of Padjelanta — A backpacking trip in Lapland that didn’t go as planned
This video is about a summer backpacking trip in Swedish Lapland south of Padjelanta National Park. Our hike was in July. In the beginning it was unusually warm and water levels in the rivers were high. Unfortunately, we couldn’t complete our hike as planned (a circular route from Kvikkjokk via Padjelanta and Sarek) as we needed to backtrack when we encountered a stream that was impassable (we tried to cross it in several places).
The disappointment was great but in the end the trek back was quite relaxed. We fondly remember our adventure, although we had different plans ;-).
Laugavegur in Iceland — Crowded but Beautiful
This video is about a hike on Iceland’s most famous (and crowded ;-)) trail in the summer of 2020. Laugavegur leads from Landmannalaugar to Þórsmörk across the Icelandic highlands (there is a continuation to Skógar which we didn’t do). Due to the pandemic, in 2020 there were less hikers than usual – but still plenty. The landscape is really beautiful and thus I can recommend the trail.
Winter Days in Nikkaluokta (Swedish Lapland)
Early march 2020: Just before the global pandemic fully started my wife and I traveled to the Swedish village Nikkaluokta. We rented a small cabin and spent some days relaxing and exploring the surroundings. This time no big outdoor adventure ;-)!
We knew Nikkaluokta from a summer backpacking trip. In comparison to summer it was not very crowded. There are marked winter trails in the area, in particular one section of the famous Kungsleden starts here.
We enjoyed the Vistas valley the most. Very few people and almost no snow scooters. A quiet and beautiful place.
Rago, Padjelanta and Sarek — One Hike, Three National Parks
This video is about another solo hiking adventure in the autumnal Lapland. Starting in Norway and the Norwegian Rago NP, I crossed over to Sweden where I traversed the Padjelanta and Sarek NPs. My endpoint was Kvikkjokk.
It really was a memorable trip — it is hard to say which part of my hike, which lasted two weeks, I enjoyed the most. Of my worst day unfortunately no footage exists — only memories :-).
Lapland — Beneath the Summer Sun
Summer in northern Scandinavia: It never gets dark. This video is about a summer hike in the mountains of Nowegian and Swedish Lapland. We had lots of sun — but also some gloomy days.
Our backpacking trip started at the train station in Katterat (Norway) and ended in Nikkaluokta (Sweden). We had plenty of time and sometimes spent more than one night in a place. Some of the sequences showing “early morning” sunlight were actually shot between 2 and 3 am.
Autumn in Sarek — September Hike in Swedish Lapland
This short film is about a hike in Swedish Lapland in September. The wooded areas are in their best color and the first snow covers the higher peaks.
I was passing through the national parks Stora Sjöfallet and Sarek, both part of the Laponia world heritage.
Saltfjellet-Svartisen: Backpacking in Northern Norway
Short video about a backpacking trip in and around Norway’s Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park in the end of July. Our hike started in Glomfjord and ended in Lønsdal.
The weather was exceptionally sunny and warm. Fortunately, I was able to capture some rare moments of cloudy and dramatic skies as well.
Nordic Winter — A Ski Trip in Swedish Lapland
This is a short video about my second winter trip in the north of Sweden. Overall, I spent 8 days in the mountains. Again, I was lucky to experience a spectacular display of the northern lights. My route was the following:
Abisko — Alesjaure — Tjäktja — Šielmmávággi — Nallo — Vistas — Alesjaure — Abisko
Western Scotland — Exploring the Highlands
This is a short video about a recent trip to Scotland. We did lots of hiking, enjoying the unique landscape of the Scottish Highlands.
Hikes featured in this video:
Ben A’an (Trossachs)
Glenfinnan — Inverie (section of Cape Wrath Trail)
Several hikes near Loch Maree and in the Assynt region
Lapland — A Winter Adventure (on Snowshoes)
This short video is about my first winter trip to northern Sweden — 10 days on snowshoes in the mountains
Dusky Track — A Fiordland Hike (New Zealand South Island)
This is a short video about my hike on Dusky Track in Fiordland on New Zealand’s South Island in 2016. While large parts of the track cross dense rainforest there are also more mountainous sections with great scenery. The hike was a wet experience as already on the starting day there were about 100 mm of rainfall. There are some rough sections on the trail and I had (due to high water levels) some challenging stream crossings. Nonetheless, it was great, and I preferred it to the touristy and regulated Great Walks. The huts on this track are small and cozy — for once I did not use my tent.
